Message Context Menus

A message context menu action is something you run by right-clicking a message rather than by typing a command. It is a Discord feature—the same menu you already use to pin, reply to, or copy a message. It’s located in an Apps submenu at the bottom where installed apps put their actions.

The point is that the message is sent along with the command. You don’t have to describe which message you mean or paste a link to it; you picked it, so Archivian receives it directly.

  1. On desktop: right-click the message. On mobile: tap and hold the message.

You can also use the ⋯ More button that appears at the top-right of a message when you hover over it.

  2. Find Apps in the menu that opens, near the bottom.

  3. Hover it (desktop) or tap it (mobile) to open the submenu of actions.

  4. Click the action you want.

The submenu lists the message actions every installed app has registered.

It depends on the action:

  • Some act immediately and reply to you privately.
  • Some open a form to fill in, e.g. a reason, before anything happens.
  • Some reply with buttons or a dropdown to finish the job in the channel.

Either way the reply is normally ephemeral; only you see it, and it does not post anything into the channel. Whoever wrote the message is not told that you used an action on it, unless the action itself is meant to notify them.

Which actions you see depends on what your server has enabled and what you are allowed to do. As a rough guide, Archivian’s message actions cover reporting a message to your moderators, bulk-deleting up to a point in the channel, and issuing a strike for a specific message.

Each one has its own page under Commands with details.

  • No Apps entry at all. No installed app has registered a message action you are allowed to use in that channel—or the server has restricted them.
    • Check Server Settings → Integrations → Archivian.
  • Apps is there but Archivian’s action is missing. You do not have permission for that specific action, or it has been disabled for that channel.
  • It was there yesterday. Discord allows each app a maximum of five message actions. If your server’s staff enabled a new one, another may have had to make way.
  • On mobile you cannot find Apps. Tap and hold the message, then scroll the sheet that opens—Apps is usually below the reactions and the common actions.

If the action runs but tells you that you are not allowed, that is Archivian refusing rather than Discord. Your server’s staff control that in the Archivian dashboard.
