Channel Spam
What it is for
Section titled “What it is for”Channel Spam protects a channel when its total message rate becomes too high, regardless of whether one member or several members caused it. It is useful during coordinated floods, arguments that suddenly overwhelm a channel, or raid-like bursts from many accounts.
Use User Spam when you want to respond to one member’s message rate without slowing everyone else.
Open Auto-Mod → Archivian Auto-Mod → Channel Spam in your server’s dashboard.
How it works
Section titled “How it works”Archivian counts non-exempt messages sent in a channel during the configured time window. When the combined count reaches the threshold, it runs the response for that channel. A short settling period may include additional messages from the same burst.
Messages from users Archivian recognizes as server staff do not contribute. New messages contribute to the rate counter; editing a message does not add another message.
Threshold settings
Section titled “Threshold settings”Messages
Section titled “Messages”The threshold is the combined number of messages required to trigger. The dashboard allows 2–20 messages.
Window
Section titled “Window”The window is the period in which the channel must reach that count. The dashboard allows 1–60 seconds.
Lower thresholds and longer windows make the feature more sensitive. The default is 20 messages within 10 seconds. Busy general-chat channels may need a higher effective rate, while a slow announcements-discussion channel can use a stricter setting.
Exceptions
Section titled “Exceptions”- Ignored Channels exempts selected channels.
- Ignored Categories exempts channels in selected categories.
- Ignored Roles means messages from members with any selected role do not contribute to the check.
Exempt channels where bursts are expected—such as counting games, live-event reactions, or bot-command channels—rather than weakening the threshold for the entire server.
Actions
Section titled “Actions”Action Reason
Section titled “Action Reason”Used in alerts and audit logs. For example: Channel message rate exceeded.
Channel Slow Mode
Section titled “Channel Slow Mode”Temporarily turns on Discord slow mode in the affected channel.
- Slow-mode limit sets how long each member must wait between messages. The normal slider ranges from 1 second to 2 minutes.
- Duration sets how long Archivian keeps that slow mode enabled. The normal slider ranges from 5 seconds to 5 minutes.
- Release slider limits unlocks the full ranges: up to 6 hours between messages and up to 24 hours of enforcement. Use these extended values cautiously.
The default response is a 10-second slow mode for 60 seconds. This is a sensible starting point because it dampens a burst without leaving the channel restricted for long.
Archivian schedules removal of the temporary slow mode after the duration. If your staff manually changes channel slow mode during an incident, review the channel afterward to ensure the final value matches your intention.
Send a Message
Section titled “Send a Message”Sends up to four configurable messages to the affected channel or another channel. Use one to explain that slow mode was applied and another to alert staff. The editor provides placeholders for the channel, contributing users, message count, and message links.
Tuning
Section titled “Tuning”If normal event chatter triggers the feature, shorten the window, raise the threshold, or add a narrow channel exception. If a coordinated flood gets through, lengthen the window or lower the threshold. Avoid making slow mode much harsher than necessary; the goal is to restore a usable conversation, not punish every member in the channel.
