New Template

A template defines the patterns Archivian uses to create a Discord Auto-Mod rule. This page covers each field and its limits.

To enable the Publish button, a template must additionally meet these requirements:

  • the description has at least 32 characters, and
  • it has at least 1 tag.
  • Required.
  • At least 2 characters, at most 80.
  • Must not contain profanity, slurs, or other derogatory or offensive content — it should abstractly describe what the rule does.

The template’s name also becomes the name of the Discord Auto-Mod rule. We prefix the rule in Discord with [Managed/?] to indicate Archivian is managing it:

  • ? becomes X for a private template.
  • ? becomes 1 or higher for a public template — the number is the template’s version, which increases each time the author updates and re-publishes it.
  • Optional for private templates; required for public templates.
  • Maximum 1024 characters.
  • Minimum 32 characters for public templates; no minimum for private templates.
  • Should describe more elaborately what the rule does, plus any extra information you want.
  • Used only for UI and informational purposes on the Archivian website, though it may be included in server alerts when updates are published.
  • Optional for private templates; required for public templates.
  • 2–32 characters each.
  • Only a–z, 0–9, and hyphens (-) — no other symbols, always lowercase.
  • At least 1 tag for public templates; none required for private templates. Maximum 10 tags either way.
  • Must not contain profanity, slurs, or other derogatory or offensive content.

These are the patterns used for matching in Discord.

  • At least 1 keyword pattern or 1 regex pattern is required (for both private and public templates).
  • Maximum 60 characters per keyword (same as Discord).
  • Maximum 1000 keywords per rule (same as Discord).
  • At least 1 regex pattern or 1 keyword pattern is required (for both private and public templates).
  • Maximum 260 characters per regex (same as Discord).
  • Maximum 10 regexes per rule (same as Discord).

Exceptions work exactly like keyword patterns. If a message matches a keyword or regex pattern, Discord then checks the exceptions; if any exception matches, the violation is ignored — even if the message matched multiple patterns.

  • No minimum count; can be empty.
  • Maximum 60 characters per exception (same as Discord).
  • Maximum 100 exceptions per rule (same as Discord).
