How to Create an Auto-Mod Template

First, decide whether the template should be owned by your server or by you.

User-owned

  • You can keep private templates and use them across multiple servers.
  • Only you can see and edit these templates. (Nothing stops anyone from editing the corresponding Discord Auto-Mod rule inside the server, though.)

Server-owned

  • With the right permissions, other staff can update the template.
  • Even though you created it, you’ll lose access if you leave as staff.

To create one as a user, go to your personal dashboard → Auto-Mod → create a new template. To create one as a server, go to that server’s dashboard → Auto-Mod → Templates → create a new template.

Only two things are mandatory: the name, and a pattern or regex — you must fill out a keyword pattern or a regex (you can do both).

When you save, it creates a private template. If created via a server, saving does not activate the template in Discord — that’s a separate step.

See Template Settings for the full set of fields and their limits.
