Other Auto-Mod FAQ

Common questions about managing Auto-Mod templates and rules in Archivian.

What happens if I edit a rule inside Discord?

If it isn’t a managed rule, it has nothing to do with Archivian. If it is managed, nothing happens at first — but if you change the name, the name in Discord may no longer match the dashboard, and if the template later receives changes that get applied, you may lose any edits you made to the rule inside Discord.

Archivian does not have a two-way binding to Discord Auto-Mod rules: changes you make in Discord are never applied back to the template, and may be overwritten at any point. To change a managed rule’s patterns or name, do it through the dashboard.

What happens if I don't accept an update to a template?

Nothing. With manual updates, the Discord rule stays as it is, and you can ignore the new update for as long as you like. When you do review it, Archivian always compares your current state with the newest version and updates to the newest if you accept.

What happens if a template I subscribed to gets deleted?

Nothing — with either manual or automatic updates, your rule keeps working as it always has. There just won’t be any more updates to it, and the template becomes hidden from the public, so you won’t be able to find it again if you ever unsubscribe (unmount) from it.

What happens if I delete my private template that I'd published?

Deleting a private template also deletes the published one — unless one or more servers are subscribed to the public rule. In that case we hide it from the public instead of deleting it, so subscribed servers keep working. Once every server has unsubscribed, the public rule may eventually be deleted as part of a scheduled cleanup.

I hit a limit on rules/templates, but I need more

A server can have 10 private templates on Free, 50 on Plus, 100 on Team and 1,000 on Pro, and you can have 10 personal templates. Upgrading the server raises its limit. Templates you already have above a limit are kept; you just can’t add more until you are below it.

You can also request quota increases for both private and public templates, for servers and user accounts — join the support server and submit a request. We can’t raise the limit of 6 mounted templates/rules at once, as that’s a Discord limit outside our control.

How can I report a public template?

Common, valid reasons to report a public template include:

  • prohibited language in the name or tags;
  • it’s just spam;
  • the description contains vulgar language with no reasonable purpose;
  • someone is abusing the influence they have over servers subscribed to the template;
  • statistics are artificially inflated.

A public template should never have profanity, slurs, or offensive language in its name or tags. Such language is acceptable in the description only when it’s there to describe the template, and the patterns and exceptions themselves are likely to contain offensive language — that’s the whole reason they exist. To report one, join the support server and contact staff.

Things we generally don’t accept reports for:

  • “It’s not a usable template.” People sometimes publish just to test how publishing looks. You can report it if it’s been there a long time (a month or more), in which case we’ll unpublish it.
  • “It’s a copy of my template, or one someone else owns.” Once published, a template is considered public domain — anyone may copy it as-is or with modifications and publish it.
  • “It contains content that was originally mine, and I didn’t publish a template.” It’s generally hard to prove ownership, especially of patterns, which are more fixed facts than original creative work. If you believe you can back up such a claim, we’ll handle it case by case.
