Text Patterns
What it is for
Section titled “What it is for”Text Patterns catches server-specific words and phrases without requiring a Discord AutoMod template. It can block recurring scam wording, prohibited advertising phrases, slurs, leaked codes, or other text that has a predictable form.
Open Auto-Mod → Archivian Auto-Mod → Text Patterns in your server’s dashboard.
How it works
Section titled “How it works”Archivian compares the text of new and edited messages with your active patterns. Matching is case-insensitive. If any pattern matches, the configured actions run.
Messages from users Archivian recognizes as server staff are not checked. If all four pattern lists are empty, the feature has nothing to match.
Pattern settings
Section titled “Pattern settings”Patterns are converted to lowercase and trimmed when you add them.
Includes
Section titled “Includes”Matches the text anywhere, including inside another word or across part of a phrase.
Example: free nitro matches Claim FREE NITRO here. A short pattern such as ass can also
match harmless words containing those letters, so use enough context to avoid false positives.
Starts with
Section titled “Starts with”Matches the beginning of a whitespace-separated word or phrase.
Example: advertis can match advertise, advertising, or advertisement. It will not match
letters in the middle of a word.
Ends with
Section titled “Ends with”Matches the end of a whitespace-separated word or phrase.
Example: dot com can match text ending a phrase that way. This is less commonly needed than
Includes or Is exactly.
Is exactly
Section titled “Is exactly”Matches a complete whitespace-separated word or phrase rather than part of a longer word.
Example: cap matches that is cap, but not captain. Use this when a partial match would
catch too many innocent messages.
Start with Is exactly for individual words and Includes for distinctive multi-word scam phrases. Test short patterns carefully.
Exceptions
Section titled “Exceptions”- Ignored Channels exempts selected channels.
- Ignored Categories exempts channels in selected categories.
- Ignored Roles exempts any member who has at least one selected role.
An exception can be useful for a private moderation channel where staff quote prohibited text while reviewing reports.
Actions
Section titled “Actions”- Action Reason is used in alerts, audit logs, and cases. For example:
Message matched a prohibited text pattern. - Delete Message removes the matching message.
- Add Roles assigns selected roles.
- Remove Roles removes selected roles.
- Create a Case records a note or warning, or applies a timeout, kick, or ban. Timeout and ban actions include duration controls; bans can also purge recent messages.
- Send a Message can send up to four configurable messages to the same channel, the member’s DMs, another channel, or—as long as the original is not deleted—as a reply. Placeholders can show the member, message link, configured pattern, and text that matched.
For subjective language rules, start with deletion plus a staff notification and review the results before enabling automatic punishments.
Keeping the list useful
Section titled “Keeping the list useful”Review patterns after false positives and remove obsolete campaign wording. A small set of specific patterns is usually safer and easier to understand than a large collection of short, broad fragments.
