Cross-Posting
What it is for
Section titled “What it is for”Cross-Posting stops a member from sending the same message across several channels. It is useful against mass advertising, scam blasts, repeated recruitment posts, and users trying to force the same announcement into every conversation.
It only applies to messages with text content. Use User Spam for rapid messages in one channel, even when their content differs.
Open Auto-Mod → Archivian Auto-Mod → Cross-Posting in your server’s dashboard.
How it works
Section titled “How it works”Archivian looks for the same member sending identical message text in different channels within the configured time window. When the message appears in enough channels, the configured actions run against the set of matching posts.
Messages from users Archivian recognizes as server staff are not checked. The match is based on the message text, so even a small edit can make a post different.
Threshold settings
Section titled “Threshold settings”Different channels
Section titled “Different channels”The threshold is the number of different channels in which the identical message must appear. The dashboard allows 2–10+ channels.
The default is 2 channels, which is strict. Raise it to 3 or 4 if members legitimately share the same notice in a small number of relevant channels.
Window
Section titled “Window”The window is how many seconds Archivian looks back for matching posts. The dashboard allows 1–60 seconds; the default is 60 seconds.
A longer window catches slower copy-and-paste campaigns. A shorter window focuses on rapid blasts and is less likely to catch deliberate, legitimate reposting.
Exceptions
Section titled “Exceptions”- Ignored Channels exempts selected channels.
- Ignored Categories exempts channels in selected categories.
- Ignored Roles exempts any member who has at least one selected role.
If community organizers need to repeat approved notices, give them a narrowly scoped ignored role instead of exempting every announcement-related channel.
Actions
Section titled “Actions”- Action Reason is used in alerts, audit logs, and cases. For example:
Posted identical content across multiple channels. - Delete Messages removes all matching cross-posts in the detected set, including the first one.
- Add Roles assigns selected roles.
- Remove Roles removes selected roles.
- Create a Case records a note or warning, or applies a timeout, kick, or ban. Timeout and ban actions include duration controls; bans can also purge recent messages.
- Send a Message can send up to four configurable messages to the member’s DMs or another channel. Placeholders can include the member, repeated content, channel count, and links to the matching posts.
A good starting response is to delete the duplicate set, DM the member with the relevant posting rule, and notify staff. Reserve automatic punishment for patterns that are very unlikely to be accidental.
Tuning
Section titled “Tuning”If legitimate announcements trigger the feature, raise the channel threshold, shorten the window, or exempt only the trusted role that posts them. If spam is slipping through because the sender changes a character in each copy, combine this feature with Text Patterns, Bad Links, or User Spam rather than making the cross-post settings excessively strict.
